Community Impact:
The 201 Ellicott project successfully transformed a ±2.5 acre surface parking lot into a mixed-use, mobility-oriented development, bringing an affordable fresh food market, as well as 201 affordable rental housing units and a mobility hub, creating a unique gateway project for the City of Buffalo.. The project’s guiding principles, as identified through public and stakeholder input include: Affordability: welcoming a diverse group of residents to the urban core; Vibrancy: activating street life; Mobility: maximizing connectivity; and Health & Wellness: making fresh food available to an underserved community. These principles were realized as the development took shape, optimizing the site for its highest and best use. Specifically, affordable housing options were made available in the city’s downtown core, a food desert was greened, making fresh food options a reality through the market component, and a multi-modal transportation hub was created to enhance transportation options and encourage connectivity with the entire city. Beyond the physical structures, an important connection between a thriving neighborhood and the city’s core was established and extended services and amenities to residents
