Operation Pathways at Plaza Borinquen

Organization Name: Operation Pathways

Project Title: Operation Pathways at Plaza Borinquen

Project Location: Mott Haven - Bronx

Project Description:
Operation Pathways prides itself on offering resident-centered programs and services throughout our portfolio. Our site in the Bronx has been a forerunner in providing a strength-based and equity approach with the community by implementing a collaborative and co-designed approach to services. This has created a beloved community where residents know their voices are heard and understood. Residents are at the center of our community activities. Our services start and end with their input, support, participation, and evaluation. Our site staff will reach out to residents to ask them about their vision for community activities and events, and we are guided by their vision. Residents have volunteered their time, talent, and treasure to ensure the families at la Placita have an opportunity to come together and celebrate, remember the past, and prepare the next generation for future success.

Community Impact:
The Plaza Borinquen is in the Mott Haven neighborhood in the South Bronx. Operation Pathways has been providing services and opportunities which promote financial stability, professional development, health, safety, mental/emotional well-being, increased resident engagement and providing opportunities for growth, both for the individuals and families. This year we have been able to work with all 88 households and 156 residents. Programs and services included:
• Community and police engagement with the 40th Precinct
• CPR and Fire safety classes
• Holiday Tree Lighting to celebrate the holidays as a community
• Anchor Health Care, helps residents become their loved one’s care giver while also providing employment
• Back-to-School event provides youth with the tools to be ready to learn on day one of school
• Family-Centered Coaching promotes autonomy and empowerment as we support residents working toward their goals
• America Saves Week- Residents planning for their future and creating financial goals. From February - October, residents saved $1,300 collectively and many purchased rental insurance for the first time
• The majority of these opportunities where initiated and led by residents
