New York Housing Conference is releasing our Housing Priorities for the Next Mayor. In two weeks, New York City voters will elect a new mayor, who will face a growing affordability crisis. The next mayor will need to develop a new housing plan while improving existing systems.

NYHC’s priorities include:

  • Increase affordable housing supply by expanding capital funding and leveraging the real estate market
  • Address at-risk multifamily housing, including solutions to increase income and decrease expenses
  • Support NYCHA’s PACT pipeline and the Public Housing Preservation Trust
  • Fix bureaucratic requirements causing delays and adding costs
  • Support City FHEPS expansion

We also strongly urge all mayoral candidates to support the housing-related charter ballot questions. The ballot questions will create a fast track for affordable housing and remove barriers to building affordable housing citywide. The next mayor should also look for opportunities for upzonings and to implement the City of Yes proposals that were passed last year.

We also highlight upcoming challenges including OMB overreach, staff capacity, and federal funding uncertainty and potential cuts.
