This week NYHC and RLN hosted the first installment of our Winter Thought Leader Series. The event focused on: Climate, Sustainability & Affordable Housing, and featured Samantha Pearce, Vice President of Sustainability at NYS Homes and Community Renewal and moderated by Daphany Rose Sanchez, Executive Director of Resources from Kinetic Communities.

New York State passed the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act in 2019, which mandates the state develop a comprehensive scoping plan to reduce green house gas (GHG) emissions throughout the state; one goal (of seven) being to reduce green house gas emissions 40% by 2030 and at least an 85% reduction by 2050, compared to GHG emissions from 1990. Samantha Pearce highlighted the recommendations, findings, and proposed pathway of achieving carbon reduction as released by the Climate Action Council and included in the daft scoping plan, all with a focus on affordable housing and buildings.
