Last week, NYHC organized a meeting with Rep. Zeldin at his Patchogue District office to advocate for his support regarding the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act (H.R. 1661). This commonsense bipartisan legislation strengthens the tax credit and makes easier to leverage private funds to develop affordable housing for people at a diverse range of incomes. During the meeting, Ralph Fasano (Concern for Independent Living), Rebecca Sauer (Supportive Housing Network of New York), Gabrielle Fasano (Long Island Coalition for the Homeless), Marc Greenburg (Interfaith Assembly on Homelessness and Housing) and Daron Tubian (Bank of America Merrill Lynch) and Jessica Facciponti (NYHC) and spoke about the affordable housing and supportive housing need in the Congressman’s district and the positive impact of the Low Income Housing Tax Credit in his district and across NY. Liberty Landing, a Concern for Independent Living project for formerly homeless veterans, in Congressman Zeldin’s district was highlighted, which the Congressman had agreed to tour later that week to see the impact of the housing tax credit firsthand on his constituents. This morning, Congressman Zeldin proudly agreed to cosponsor H.R. 1661. We thank the Congressman for his support and will continue to work in partnership with housing advocates across the state to convey the importance of this housing tax credit legislation to other NY legislators.
