Vincent’s Village

Organization Name: Rockabill Development/Sisters of Charity HDC

Project Title: Vincent's Village

Project Location: Nanuet, New York

Project Description:
Vincent’s Village represents what can be achieved when the faith-based community, state and private sector unite behind the common goal of creating homes that allow aging New Yorkers to live independently and with dignity. Rockabill Development and Sisters of Charity Housing Development Corp. partnered to develop 93 units of senior supportive housing, with a design/build execution to LEED Gold standards. The project was built on the site of St. Agatha’s Home, a former orphanage founded 1884. A current tenant resided at the orphanage as a child and was delighted to ‘return home’ upon moving into the development. On-site services include healthcare monitoring, care coordination, case management, counseling and social activities, funded by Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative and NYSDOH. With this funding, the Sisters are focusing on preventative health care and wellness to reduce nursing home and emergency room stays. Vinny’s Café, a custom-designed space for residents offering snacks and sundries, provides connection with fellow neighbors and is managed by members of the developmentally disabled population, with the support of New York Foundling.

Community Impact:
The need for affordable housing in Rockland County is demonstrated by the one month lease up of Vincent’s Village and was supported through the multiple local agencies requiring sign off through the development process. Vincent’s Village created 93 units of senior affordable and supportive housing for at-risk seniors 62 years and older on limited incomes. This project addresses the growing need for affordable housing with services for seniors– some of whom are at risk of being displaced or are homeless – and enables them to remain connected to vital community resources, along with access to high-quality health care services.
