Organization Name: Rockabill Consulting LLC
Project Title: Care Found Here - Blondell Avenue
Project Location: Westchester Square, Bronx
Project Description:
Care for the Homeless (CFH) is opening a newly constructed, purpose-built shelter in the Bronx to support men experiencing homelessness. This three-story, 22,000 square foot facility will provide transitional housing for two hundred residents, designed by ESKW/Architects to prioritize dignity and well-being. The shelter features an activity lounge, rooftop patio, outdoor seating areas, computer lab, and a spacious dining area, creating a welcoming environment for residents.
In addition to providing transitional housing, CFH will operate an on-site New York State-licensed community health center offering primary and behavioral health care. This facility will serve both residents and the surrounding community, improving access to critical health services in an underserved area. Comprehensive supportive services, including case management, housing placement assistance, and counseling, will be provided by a dedicated team of psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, housing specialists, and recreation coordinators. This project will have a lasting impact on the local community by fostering stability and improving the quality of life for both homeless individuals and local residents.
Community Impact:
This project is a critical step in CFH’s efforts to address homelessness in New York City, combining transitional shelter with comprehensive health and social services to help individuals achieve stability and independence. By integrating health care with transitional housing, Care for the Homeless (CFH) provides community-based health services to both shelter residents and the surrounding community. The co-location of housing and health care reduces barriers homeless New Yorkers face in navigating the complex health system, improving access to high-quality care.
Utilizing the Department of Homeless Services’s Non-Profit Owned program, CFH will own and operate the shelter for decades, ensuring long-term sustainability and strengthening its physical presence in the community. The shelter emphasizes dignity through trauma-informed design concepts and spacious, open environments. Large hallways, high ceilings, and open gathering spaces—both indoors and on the rooftop patio—create a welcoming atmosphere for residents to access help, guidance, and healthcare. Large windows allow for ample natural light, fostering a bright, hopeful space that supports residents' long-term well-being and success.
