Archer Green

Organization Name: Omni New York LLC; ESKW/Architects

Project Title: Archer Green

Project Location: Queens, NY

Project Description:
This new development on 168th Street in Downtown Jamaica will provide a blend of mixed-income housing, commercial space, and community facility. The 420,000-square-foot building offers 389 apartments with 100 parking spaces below. It has taken the place of a brownfield site that required environmental remediation. In addition to providing housing, the site will play an important role in the revitalization of the neighborhood by providing a substantial community facility as well as additional retail frontage. The project will also feature a state-of-the-art sustainable power system, an on-site Resilient Power Hub (RPH) that collects and stores power for use in the event of an emergency and to cut back on daily operational costs. Its brick detailing is very striking, setting it apart from other developments in the area. The project was borne out of the Jamaica NOW Action Plan and will deliver approximately 15,000 square feet of community facility space and 68,800 square feet of retail and commercial space. Additionally, the project is expected to create nearly 350 construction jobs and over 300 permanent jobs.

Community Impact:
“A hallmark of the Jamaica NOW Action Plan is to revitalize one of Queens’ most critical commercial and cultural hubs, this mixed-use complex will provide the community with the affordable housing, community facility space, retail, and employment opportunities it needs and deserves going forward,” said Queens Borough President Melinda Katz.
“Archer Green will bring a vibrant mix of affordable housing, parking, community, and retail space, while also generating new opportunities for MWBE businesses and creating jobs for New Yorkers, demonstrating our comprehensive approach to transforming communities and bolstering economic opportunity for our city under Housing New York,” said HDC President Eric Enderlin.
At the project’s groundbreaking, former HPD Commissioner Maria Torres-Springer said, “Today represents a significant milestone in our progress towards the goals of both the Jamaica NOW Action Plan and Housing New York, as we put shovels in the ground to repurpose this public site for much-needed affordable housing and commercial space. Archer Green will create 380 affordable and bring vibrant new community and retail space, as part of a larger, locally-driven plan to revitalize the neighborhood.”
