Organization Name: Mega Contracting Group
Project Title: 2425 Pacific Street
Project Location: 2425 Pacific Street, Brownsville, Brooklyn
Project Description:
2425 Pacific Street is a newly constructed, 10-story affordable and supportive housing development in Brownsville, Brooklyn, developed through a partnership between Brooklyn Community Housing & Services (BCHS), Alembic Community Development, and Love Fellowship Tabernacle Church. Designed by SLCE Architects and built by Mega Contracting Group, the 230,660-square-foot development provides 236 residential units and 6,962 square feet of ground-floor commercial space.
The building's architectural design combines a concrete podium and block-and-plank superstructure with brick and metal panel façade, balancing durability with contemporary aesthetics. A defining feature of the project is its ground-source geothermal system integrated with rooftop solar generation, a high-performance building envelope, and stormwater management infrastructure. Together, these systems support energy efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and promote long-term building. By integrating sustainable design with a diverse residential program, 2425 Pacific Street demonstrates how high-performance construction can advance affordable housing in a dense urban setting.
Community Impact:
2425 Pacific Street provides 236 apartments serving individuals and families with diverse housing needs. Of these, 71 units are designated for chronically homeless single adults with Serious Mental Illness (SMI), Substance Use Disorder (SUD), or co-occurring conditions. Another 71 units serve chronically homeless families with children whose head of household has an SMI, SUD, or co-occurring conditions. The remaining 94 units provide affordable housing for households earning 30% to 80% of Area Median Income (AMI). By combining permanent supportive housing with income-restricted apartments, the project addresses multiple housing needs within one community. Amenities include community gathering spaces, a landscaped outdoor terrace, a playground, and resident amenities that encourage recreation and social interaction. Accessible entrances, apartments, common areas, and elevators support inclusive access throughout the building. Residents can also participate in art and horticultural therapy, wellness activities, movie and game nights, and community events. Together, these spaces and programs promote well-being, foster a sense of belonging, and support residents in building stable, independent lives.
