NYHC and the RLN hosted the third Winter Thought Leader event – a policy symposium on Solutions to NY’s Housing Supply Shortage this week. Experts on housing & zoning discussed NY’s challenges and solutions including Governor Hochul’s Housing Compact.

At the first panel – The Housing Compact: Need and Impact – HCR Commissioner RuthAnne Visnauskas presented on the need for and details of the Housing Compact, followed by a discussion moderated by Mihir Zaveri of the New York Times with Commissioner Visnauskas, Tim Foley of Welcome Home Westchester and The Building and Realty Institute of Westchester and the Mid-Hudson Region, Laura Harding from Erase Racism, and NYS Senator Brian Kavanaugh. The panel talked about the challenges to adding housing supply and why statewide action is needed.

At the second panel – Community Benefits of Transit Oriented Development – Raju Mann of Arup presented the new report commissioned by NYHC: Unlocking Housing Access: Transit Oriented Development and the New York Housing Compact followed by a discussion moderated by Rachel Fee with Raju Mann, New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson, Kenny Lee from Zillow, and Gwen O’Shea from the Community Development Corporation of Long Island. The panelists discussed how increased density can make our region more equitable and more affordable.
