The New York Housing Conference sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to encourage them to make bold change and a lasting impact in the infrastructure bill.

As you well know, housing is infrastructure and therefore should be included in the infrastructure bill. Housing benefits the families who are securely housed, the communities in which it is built, and the economy through job and revenue creation. In the letter, we called on the Congress to: 1) Establish a housing safety net by providing Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers to all eligible households; 2) Preserve public housing; and 3) Expand affordable housing supply.

The letter was signed by almost 100 New York organizations, 34 Assembly members, 31 state senators, 11 City Council members, six mayoral candidates and two borough presidents. You can see the letter, which we sent on June 25, 2021, here. The letter and the campaign was covered by Crain’s New York Business: Large coalition of New York pols, orgs call for federal infrastructure bill to include housing policy changes.
