Tomorrow and Wednesday, join organizations and people across the country and raise your voice about the importance of federal investment in affordable housing! The 3rd annual Our Homes Our Voices National Housing Week of Action runs from May 30 through June 5. During this week, there will be over 110 events across the U.S. discussing the need for more affordable housing investments and calling on Congress to make it happen!

NYHC has participated in this National Week of Action since its inception, lifting the voices of New Yorkers and highlighting our state’s affordable housing funding needs. In previous years, we have worked with the Red Hook Initiative and CASA on events (click on the links to see videos from these past events). This year, we are proud to collaborate with Riseboro Community Partnership with an afternoon of events tomorrow at two of its Bushwick senior centers. Follow NYHC‘s twitter account to see our tweets and interviews from these events live from 11-2pm.

Show your support by participating in the Twitterstorm tomorrow and the call-in day on Wednesday. Use this opportunity to join the national fight against the President’s dangerous proposed cuts to the HUD budget and his administration’s proposals: to increase rents for HUD-assisted tenants, split up and evict mixed immigration status HUD-assisted households and weaken protections for LGBTQ persons in shelters. During your actions, ask your Congressional Representative to lift the Non-Defense Discretionary budget caps, which if they are not raised could lead to an estimated 10% cut in HUD funding, and to increase HUD and USDA housing funding in FY2020.

Take Action:

  • June 4th (2:00-3:00PM): Follow @theNYHC and @NLIHC on Twitter and tweet about the importance of federal affordable housing funding. Here are sample NLIHC tweets and social media images to use.
  • June 5th (All Day): Call the offices of your House and Senate representatives with the message that they must support and increase investments in HUD and USDA affordable housing programs. Here is a sample call-in day script.
