Organization Name: Mega Contracting Group

Project Title: The Eliza

Project Location: 4790 Broadway, Inwood NY

Project Description:
The Eliza is a pioneering development that delivers 174 units of much-needed deeply-affordable housing to the Inwood Community, as well as the revitalized state-of-the-art, 20,000-square-foot New York Public Library (NYPL) branch – the Joseph and Sheila Rosenblatt Building – a Universal Pre-K facility operated by the Department of Education, and the Activities, Culture, and Training (ACTS) Center, which offers job training, cultural activities, and a STEM learning center. Developed by a joint venture between the Community League of the Heights (CLOTH), The Children’s Village (CV), the lead developer Ranger Properties, Housing Workshop, and Alembic Community Development, The Eliza is a pillar for the Inwood community delivering residential, educational and community services all under one roof. Designed by Fogarty Finger (residential) and Andrew Berman Architect (library), and built by Mega Contracting Group, The Eliza is a 14-story reinforced concrete building housing 174 deeply affordable residential units, all reserved for households earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income (AMI), 20% of which are permanently reserved for formerly homeless households.

Community Impact:
The Eliza is a holistic development that not only addresses New York City’s dire need for affordable housing but also fosters education, wellness, and professional development for the Inwood community. The Eliza has made a profound impact by providing 174 units of deeply affordable housing for New York City residents. The 20,000-square-foot library features an open and flexible floor plan that allows for generous spaces capable of accommodating the growing and evolving needs of the community. It also offers dedicated spaces for adults, children, and teens, such as a Teen Center with enhanced programming and resources. The Eliza also includes a Universal Pre-K facility, a STEM learning center, and the Activities, Culture, and Training (ACTS) Center, which offers job training and cultural activities. The ACTS Center brings a state-of-the-art STEM Robotics learning center, a teaching kitchen, a performance space, a sensory room, and classrooms all designed to meet the varied needs of youth and families. This project stands as a model for community-building, blending housing, education, and cultural resources into one inclusive and vibrant space that uplifts the entire neighborhood.
