Organization Name: Anthos|Home
Project Title: Innovative and Collaborative Housing Solution
Project Location: Citywide
Project Description:
Anthos|Home is creating new pathways to housing through its innovative housing solution, which combats homelessness in New York City by getting people housed faster. By working directly with tenants, housing providers, government agencies, brokers, and nonprofits, Anthos|Home streamlines the process of moving families and individuals with housing vouchers from shelters into permanent, affordable housing and reduces average wait times for housing from 19 months to four months, on average.
While housing vouchers are a proven solution to homelessness, they are notoriously difficult to use. Nationally, about 40% of vouchers go unused, and in New York City, with its 1.4% vacancy rate, finding an apartment is an enormous challenge. Anthos|Home’s collaborative approach addresses the obstacles that prevent voucher holders from finding homes, including unit availability, landlord hesitancy, bureaucratic challenges, and more. By combining an expert team, which coordinates among all parties involved, and a flexible funding pool, which allows Anthos|Home to make things easier for both tenants and owners, the organization has provided a groundbreaking solution to New York City’s homelessness crisis.
Community Impact:
Stable housing is an essential precursor to education, employment, health, and other contributors to ending poverty and enabling individuals and families to pursue their goals. Through Anthos|Home’s model, individuals and families typically move into housing within four months—five times faster than the current NYC average. Anthos|Home’s housing solution reduces the amount of time that people spend in shelter and cuts short the devastating impact of homelessness on people’s lives.
Anthos|Home also provides a year minimum of aftercare to tenants, and ongoing, 24/7 “whatever it takes” support to landlords, to ensure housing stability and success. We connect households with a comprehensive range of community services as needed, from healthcare to education and more, to help them rebuild their lives and establish support networks. At the same time, we assist housing providers with payment difficulties, voucher renewals, and any other challenges that emerge. Anthos|Home helps move people into homes, and then provides both tenants and landlords the resources needed to ensure housing stability.
Organization Description:
Founded in 2022, Anthos|Home is a nonprofit dedicated to helping people with housing vouchers move from shelter into permanent housing as quickly as possible. The organization’s mission is to ensure that the housing voucher system works effectively for everyone involved by addressing the barriers faced by voucher holders and providing support through their journey to a new home and beyond, so that they are able to stay housed long-term. To date, we have moved in more than 180 households and are on track to move in a total of 500 by summer 2025.
