NLIHC and the Campaign for Housing and Community Development Funding has circulated a national letter calling on Congress and the White House to end the government shutdown and pass HUD and USDA spending bills as soon as possible. On December 21, Congress failed to provide FY19 funding for several federal agencies causing a partial government shutdown, which it is now the longest running shutdown in U.S. history. The longer the shutdown continues, the greater the threat to vulnerable and low-income populations served by affordable housing and community development programs. Review NLIHC’s impact fact sheet on specific federal programs here and see how the shutdown is impacting HUD-Assisted Housing locally via NLIHC’s interactive map and its a state-by-state breakdown. We urge our organizational partners and local government officials to sign the letter and any individuals who have been impacted by the shutdown to reach out to outreach@nlihc.org.
